Neuro – Mind

October 10, 2019No CommentsPip McKay

One of the features of the conscious mind is its desire to be in control. It only has, however, a limited capacity and as a result is easily overwhelmed by too much information.

The easiest way to overcome conscious overwhelm is to write out everything that needs to be accomplished and then pick one specific thing and get it done. The conscious mind will immediately feel more at ease because it feels in control. This is the same in theory when helping someone. If they can do one thing well, life feels easier.

The other side of this, however, is that many people major in minor things because they can easily accomplish and finish something small and that makes them feel in control. The more a person can feel comfortable with temporary confusion, the more likely it is that they will take time to decide what is the most important thing to accomplish in order to achieve success.

This is why it is so important to get a vision of what you want on a big picture scale, because it helps you understand what is the most important task to spend your time on. It also helps you feel more comfortable with putting in place foundations for bigger goals that do not show immediate results or may take some time to complete.

So next time you feel overwhelmed, ask yourself: “What is the purpose of this section of my life?” and decide which task would take you closer to your goal and begin with that first. Write down all the minor tasks that will lead to its completion so that you can feel closure for each section.
